Recreation and Social Activities
Our highly trained Activity Coordinators enhance the quality of life for our residents through meaningful and holistic programming. We believe in continuing education to maintain our high standards and to remain current in our field.
Our home offers varied activities during the day, evenings and weekends that is tailored to interests of our residents. Our expansive auditorium is essential in hosting our successful events such as musical entertainment, holiday socials, special meals and church services. The Craigwiel Gardens’ van provides ample opportunity to participate in community events, to enjoy local restaurants and to view the countryside. Residents have the opportunity to relax and experience an emotional and intellectual vacation in the Snoezelen room located in the Adult Day Program.
Our Chaplain ensures that the full range of religious traditions of the residents are served.
Singing and stories from the past and the present are shared with the residents in both one-on-one visits, religious services and informal evening devotions. Three weekly church services are conducted by volunteer lay-workers and professional clergy, who come and share their hope with the residents. On an annual basis, our chaplain leads a gathering to celebrate the passages of life.
Family and friends are considered an integral part of our care team and are encouraged to visit their loved one often. Lounges are available for visits and interaction with other residents and guests. We encourage our residents to stay as connected as possible with their past community affiliations, whether it be their church, service group or other organization.
Food and Nutritional Services
This department provides our residents with three delicious, attractive, and nutritious
meals and snacks daily. Our menus are planned on a four week rotation in adherence to
Canada’s Food Guide. Menus are visibly posted in the dining room and verbally communicated to the residents at each meal. Regular and therapeutic menus are prepared in accordance with the doctor’s order and input from our consulting dietitian.
Family and friends are welcome to join residents for meals at a minimum cost. Purchase of meal vouchers is available from the business office.
Our emphasis on Restorative Care provides each of our residents with the opportunity to improve and/or maintain their functional abilities. Our Restorative Care Coordinator works alongside our on-site Physiotherapist and Physiotherapist Assistant to ensure a seamless continuum of care between rehabilitation and maintenance.
The restorative care program focuses on client centered goals and promotes independence. The programs are delivered in either individual or group exercise settings. Group programming happens daily and is a great way to exercise while having fun.
A hairdressing shop is located in the Nursing Home and appointment are not always necessary. A barber is also available once a month for male residents to take advantage of.
Working under the Director of Environmental Services, the team of housekeeping staff maintains the facility and ensures that its cleanliness is far above that of many other facilities.
